Ear
mesedjer
Symbolic ears appear in mortuary paintings and temple refliefs but they appear most commonly on "ear-stelae" or inscribed stones. The stelae were usually carved with short inscriptions and one or more pairs of ears. Early historians suggested that these works were requests for the healing of deafness but since no other parts of the human body were depicted in this way this idea was discarded. It is now thought that the stelae were dedications to the gods for answering prayers or requests for gifts. mesedjer - Ear
Embrace
hepet
The hieroglyph represents two arms reaching out in an embrace. It is used in texts and inscriptions where the king is said to have a special relationship with the gods. In more symbolic contexts this hieroglyph is used to represent the rising sun as it embraces the earth. hepet - Embrace
