| Ka |
The symbol is represented by two extended arms reaching
upward or forward. While some scholars see the icon as a gesture of
embrace others see it as one of praise, prayer or even self-defense. The
concept behind the sign is just as elusive - the word ka is
usually translated as soul or spirit but the ka meant much more.
It may have symbolised male potency and in all periods it was used as a
term for the creative and sustaining power of life. |

Knife

The ancient flint knife remained in ritual use throughout
Egyptian history, even when metal knifes were available. The knife was a
natural symbol of protection and retribution and also played a part in
solar and lunar imagery. It also forms part of the "follower
sign" or shemset. |
