"Nut - Sky Goddess"
Nut arches her body like the arc of the sky, over the
prone earth god, Geb. Shu, the god of air, holds them apart. The
position of Nut's body mirrors the shape of the hieroglyph for sky that
is also part of her name. The ancient Egyptians believed that Nut
swallowed the sun in the evening and gave birth to it in the morning.
