Sekhmet was the daughter of Re and the wife of Ptah, creator god. She is an incarnation of Hathor. As Hathor she is goddess of love, music and dance but in the guise of Sekhmet, "She-Who-Is-Powerful", she sends wars and epidemics unless she is placated. Sekhmet bears the head of a lioness whereas Hathor wears a sun disc between tall bovine horns.
